Finalist Pitches for the Social Entrepreneurship Track of the E-Cup

The purpose of the Concept stage of the competition is to surface and seed ideas from all parts of the university at every stage of development. Students are encouraged to come up with out-of-the-box ideas that could be translated into compelling projects. Submissions are not expected to be a full business plan, and will not be penalized for not having a working prototype, fully developed team, forecast, revenues, etc. $25,000 in total prize money will be awarded as part of the Concept Stage.

This event is open to the public, and refreshments will be served.. We are pleased to have the following guest judges joining us to evaluate the best student social enterprise pitches of the competition:

Cheis Garrus, Managing Director, MRC Capital Advisors

For more than 20 years Mr. Garrus has provided advice and analysis for investments, mergers and acquisitions, corporate strategy, business development and management. In his career, Mr. Garrus has served as Director, International Housing Solutions and Equities Analyst, Strategic African Securities (Ghana), and held positions in private equity and business development.

Diane Miller, Blue Moon Fund and Blue Morning

Diane Miller previously was President and CEO of the W. Alton Jones Foundation, and has served on a variety of non-profit boards, including Planned Parenthood of Virginia, the Childrens’ Discovery Museum, the Architectural Review Board of Albemarle County, Building Goodness Foundation, Urban Vision, Tandem Friends School, and the Global Environmental Institute.

York Eggleston, Founder & Managing Partner, YE Ventures

After gaining invaluable experience and honing his skills at leading advisory and principal investment firms such as Booz Allen & Hamilton, Salomon Brothers and Schroeder Ventures, Mr. Eggleston spent the last 20 years creating, developing and commercializing intellectual property.
